What are the most dangerous jobs in the United States?

Would you believe fishing? Is it more dangerous to be a law enforcement officer or a sanitation worker?

November is Winter Danger Month at Embrace Pet Insurance

With the cold weather coming up, youll need to watch out for cruciate ligament ruptures in wet, oricy and snowy areas when doggy footing isnt so stable, as well as cracked paw pads from the cold.

And of course, theres all that rich holiday food lying around just begging to be eaten. Weve seen more than our fair share of claims for surgery removing the turkey bones from a dogs stomach and treating for pancreatitis from eating rich and fatty human foods like turkey meat and gravy.

Do you have any health experiences from winter dangers to share with our readers? Well be sharing some of the good stories on this blog. Feel free to email me at .

Where to Find Premium Savings?

As we get to the end of 2011 it is time to start looking at ways to save business insurance premium dollars in 2012. I though about this after I finished an article on premium savings for green business practices. There are a great number of ways a business can save on premium expense.

  1. First, safety. Like it or not, the best way to reduce premium costs is by having safe employees and safe business practices and consistently applying those standards.
  2. Your business can review its coverage and existing policies.
  3. Your company can get involved in trade organizations, chambers of commerce, or other organizations and purchase business insurance through the organization for a significant savings.
  4. Employee training, depending on the industry, can reduce premiums.

Looking at Additional Insured Status

Not a very exciting title for a post.

There are two times when a business cheifly interacts with its insurance company:

  1. At the start of the policy and during the application process when the business is purchasing the policy; and,
  2. When the company, through its operations, must add another entity to its policy as an additional insured.

The status of “additional insured,” while demanded in a rote fashion incommercial contracts around the world, is not widely understood by most business owners. In the typical scenario the business has secured a lucrative contract with a larger company. The larger company sends over a contract the smaller company must agree with in order to do business with larger company.

Let the Insurer Create a Business Insurance Package for you.

I just finished an article discussing why it can be helpful to look at packages of business insurance products created for a specific industry.

Many insurers build on their experience with specific categories of business insurance customers to create packages of commercial insurance tailored to your business.

For example, Nationwide has one of the best websites that illustrate this point. It’s “popular industries” page lists a number of specific businesses and provides information, checklists, and FAQ’s specific to the industry category.

This can be both an educational and cost saving way to purchase insurance for your business.

Ageas and Cardinus strike risk management deal

Ageas has partnered with risk management specialists, Cardinus, to provide a package of online risk management solutions for its commercial policyholders and brokers.

As part of the deal, all commercial policyholders who take up or renew an Ageas policy are eligible for a £100 voucher that can be redeemed against Cardinus’ risk assessment or e-learning modules, accessible via the Ageas website.

In addition, brokers who trade Ageas commercial business are entitled to a £500 voucher to redeem against training for their staff.

Cardinus’ web portal is focused on small to medium-sized businesses, enabling them to: access online health and safety e-learning; carry out a business health check; access policies and guidance documents and manage staff training centrally.

Commenting on the tie-up, Ageas distribution and development director, Chris Dobson, says: “There has never been a better case for risk management training, with increasing demands from regulatory requirements and businesses’ needing to run efficiently to counteract increasing cost.”
